The platypus is the only mammal that lays eggs. During meiosis Platypuses have up to 25 possible genetic sexes. Platypus swim with their eyes closed and they hunt and maneuver using electric pulses. They are keystone species because they are top predators in their freshwater ecosystems, they control the invertebrate population like shrimp and plankton.
